Park Center Senior High School PRISM Club celebrates Pride Month

Park Center Senior High School PRISM Club celebrates Pride Month

Osseo Area Schools recognizes Pride Month in June each year. This month commemorates the history of the LGBTQIA+ movement, and since the start of the modern liberation movement in the 1970s, independent Pride events have taken place in local communities.

At Park Center Senior High School, the PRISM Club celebrated Pride Month during their last meeting. The PRISM Club is made up of staff and scholars and meets weekly to talk in a circle, discuss what is going on in their lives, support each other and socialize together. At their final meeting, the club celebrated Pride Month with rainbow floats made with ice cream and a variety of sodas.

The scholars in the club went to see the Pride flag, which was displayed at one of the entrances of the school. The scholars talked together about what it meant to them to see the flag displayed in their school.

“Seeing the flag up at the school, after really discovering my identity last year, is very emotional for me and also amazing. I grew up with kids being bullied for it, and it is amazing to see this happening now instead. I just love it,” a student in the club said.
