Osseo Area Schools students participate in robotics competition

In early December, seven competitive robotics teams from Park Center Senior High School (PCSH) and Maple Grove Senior High School (MGSH) competed at the FIRST Tech Challenge game Centerstage. The two day event was held at MGSH. Over 70 scholars from MGSH and PCSH participated in the competition, and they are currently preparing for the FIRST Robotics Challenge game Crescendo, which launches on Jan. 6. The teams are led by coaches Erik Malm and Derek Haidle of MGSH and Robert Moreno and Sarah-Meaghan Eiler of PCSH.

Highlights from the competition include:

  • Second place awarded to the Pearls of the Golden Pirate Robotics alliance
  • Judge’s Choice award to the Armored Penguins of Crimson Robotics
  • Promote award to the Skeleton Crew of the Golden Pirate Robotics
  • Compass award to the Marooned Golden Pirate Robotics
  • Third place control automation award to the Marooned Golden Pirate Robotics

This competition is one of the several opportunities for students in Osseo Area Schools to develop engineering and business skills. Several middle schools and elementary schools participate in FIRST Lego League, and Osseo Senior High School participates in VEX Robotics league.
