The Park Center Senior High School (PCSH) library media center saw a steady stream of visitors coming through April 18, as the school’s fine arts International Baccalaureate (IB) students opened the space for an IB Art Exhibition.

The exhibition featured nine artists, three of whom are pursuing their full IB diploma and others who took the IB visual arts course due to personal interest or for future career aspirations.

The exhibition’s artwork was clustered by artist and included a wide variety of mediums such as painting, charcoal, sculpture, photography, wood sculpture and more. Each artist displayed between 5 and 11 of their works of art, which they carefully curated as if they were going into a museum.

The art exhibition acts as the final of three exams throughout the two-year course, said the class’s teacher, Lori Taylor. First, students complete a comparative study to research artworks and find inspiration, then exam two focuses on a process portfolio, where students learn new art techniques and mediums at a deeper level.

Throughout the exhibition, classes and individual students made their way to the library media center to take in the artwork, with the option to leave a note for pieces that spoke to them most.

“The IB visual arts course is a rigorous, pre-university course, and this is their grand finale,” Taylor said of the event.
